The company hires native English Language instructors to give 25-minute, 1 by 1 online, fully immersive lessons delivered via the company’s learning platform and based on U.S. Common Core State Standards. Online ESL Teacher Reviews
Read this comprehensive application Guide for DaDaABC
If you can use Facebook and operate a slideshow then you can use their digital platform. If you can teach a class of 30, well one-to-one will be a breeze. Most of the children are extremely well-behaved and eager to learn.
Pros
- Good pay $15-25 USD an hour with most teachers making $16-20 on average
- The interview is straightforward- Interview and internet connection test. One demo class with an ACTUAL student.
- Curriculum/lesson plan made for you, basically look at it really quickly the day before/right before class.
- The class length is 25 min or 14 min for a trial class. Super flexible about what you can do. Play a lot of games in class or sing songs to supplement teaching material. Free talk about whatever the student wants to talk about
- Your schedule fills up FAST! Plus, even if you don’t have a class you still get paid (half-pay).
- Good bonuses on a flexible and seasonal basis.
Cons
- Must work at least 2 days for 2 hours. Not that big a deal, but less flexible than other online places.
- They pay in RMB, so have to transfer money, the fee for that, plus conversion fee. I use PayPal, the first paycheck was about 5% taken for fee/exchange.
- If you take more than two days off a month there is a 10% reduction.
- You have to do assessments after each lesson.
Tip: You can do a 6 month or a 12-month contract. Negotiate pay based on the length of a contract. If you are going to do a 12-month contract, ask for $25 US. You’ll settle on around $20. Also, if 6 months is too long, ask about doing a 3-month contract instead. I’m on a 6 month because I want to negotiate more than $20 USD per hour ASAP

Former employee says
I worked for them for a full 3 months. Overall, I really disliked the job. The cons outweigh the pros for me, but many people enjoy their employment with DaDa.
Cons:
– The biggest con is the courseware. They don’t have content that is made for online teaching. Instead, they scanned in books that are meant for B&M schools. Also, some of the most common lessons are notorious for being very boring or difficult to teach. I totally dreaded teaching with the courseware and it was the driving force behind my decision to quit.
– DaDa has a TON of tech issues with its platform. I had issues every shift, sometimes every class. There have been a lot of complaints by the other teachers about the tech issues for the past few weeks.
– The bonus system is bad. They no longer give a money bonus for perfect attendance. Instead you just get some “reward points” that are impossible to spend. Right now you can only buy Amazon gift cards with the reward points, but the three times they have posted the cards, they sold out instantly and most people have not been able to buy any. Reward points are easy to get but not that valuable. Even if I could’ve spent them, I only made enough to buy $40 in amazon gift cards after working 8 hours a week for 3 months. Meanwhile, I got about $140 per month bonus from my other company. DaDa still has some money bonuses, though. For example, you get 50 RMB ocne you taught the same regular student 4 times and 100 RMB once you taught the same regular student 21 times.
– They pay in RMB. The trade war between Trump and China has made the RMB weak and I lost about $1.50 an hour.
– There are a lot of kids who are way too young for a 30-minute, 1-1 class. Expect to see kids under 5. I had a regular student who was only 4 (total nightmare) and I’ve taught trials to kids as young as 2.
Pros:
+ They pay on time.
+ They book your classes for you.
+ They are pretty chill about giving you 2 days leave per month if you need to. However, they penalize you if you are on leave for more than 2 days no matter the reason.
+ The assessments don’t take very long to do.
+ They pay 50% for standby time and 100% for no shows.
A lot of other companies offer the same pros, so I’d consider them before DaDa.
Ellie Carrol says
Good Company
I have been working for DaDa about3 years. I do not have any major complaints they are being pretty fair to me!
As an independent contractor, the base pay they offer might be a little low but with the incentives, you will get a pretty decent paycheck here!
You will meet your boned students every week, you do not need to introduce yourself at the beginning of the class. Materials are provided!
The staffs are great, they are always willing to help
I would recommend DaDa if you are looking for extra work
John Cannizzaro says
This company is horrible! They are continuing in a downward spiral. I have over 5 years experience teaching ESL online. VIPKID is solid, as well as a few others. But Dadaabc, is the worst company I have ever worked for. They cater to the students and the parents whims, treating the teachers very disrespectfully, in terms of scheduling. Meaning, they allow the students to book multiple time slots with no penalty for cancelling, which monopolizes your schedule, not allowing other students to book you, essentially making it impossible to fill your schedule. None of the CS understand English, and they are trained to use copy and paste replies to your queries, most of the time the replies have nothing to do with your issues. This is current information as of April 2020. I suggest you find another company to work for.
Kim Harrison says
Pay rate tops at 14/hr now. The step bonus also extends to 0-20(not 15) /then 60-100 (not 80). The info in this article is old. Don’t apply here. They never pay on time. They have cut teachers pay rates aggressively since January. Not new teachers. All current teachers had their rates cut. Forced into new contracts. Dada is criminal. Stay away.
